KUALA LUMPUR: Barisan Nasional (BN) today strongly denied putting up billboards with anti-Christian message or any offensive banners for the party’s 13th general election (GE13) campaign.
“We view this matter seriously as it a malicious attempt to paint the Barisan Nasional in bad light, create angst towards the Barisan Nasional and deter Christians from voting for the BN,” said the party’s Secretary-General Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor in a statement on Wednesday.
He said BN has never put any banner of such kind or even resort to any action aimed at causing religious tension and disunity.
“As far as BN is concerned, we will never put up such banners and resort to such an action as our struggle is always aimed at uniting and prospering the people and the nation,” said Tengku Adnan expressing regret over the matter.
BN has also condemned the ‘unscrupulous act’ made by irresponsible groups and urged the Election Commission (EC) to take down the billboards as soon as possible, saying that the party does not have the power to take it down themselves.
Meanwhile, Tengku Adnan also advise all parties to be responsible in their campaigning, and not resort to immoral means.
He also advised people to not be taken in by these provocative banners and inform the BN should they encounter any banner with offensive messages by providing information on who had put them up.
