Bersih 5 rally in Kuching to be a peaceful one, assure organisers
The organisers of Bersih 5 Sarawak have given their assurance that today’s rally will be a peaceful one.
However, they advise members of the public wishing to take part to not bring along small children as the condition of today’s assembly may not be suitable for them.
According to Bersih 5 Sarawak rally coordinator Ann Teo, the gathering is taking place at the Amphitheatre near Jalan Budaya here from 4pm till 11pm.
Other various activities are also being run such as speeches from the state Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR)’s elected representatives Baru Bian (Ba Kelalan) and See Chee How (Batu Lintang), state Democratic Action Party (DAP)’s elected representative Chiew Chiu Sing (Tanjong Batu), upcoming leader Dr Kelvin Yii and also representatives from Parti Amanah Negara.
Moreover, there will also be musical performances from local youths.
“We wish to show the public that the Bersih 5 assembly is a peaceful event. It is our rights as citizens of Malaysia to demand for better governance and future for our country and for ourselves. We will cooperate with the PDRM (Royal Malaysia Police) to ensure that everything would go smoothly and also to avoid any unwanted incident,” said Teo, advising those wishing to join the rally to park their vehicles at the designated areas.
“We will have a team of volunteers to ensure the safety of the participants. The designated parking areas are Wisma Hopoh, St Joseph’s Private School, Jalan Badruddin, the park lots at the state museum grounds as well as those at the Reservoir Park.
“We advise the members of the public to park their vehicles at these designated areas because we want to avoid traffic congestion. Therefore, we urge the public to walk in groups from the designated carparks to the Amphitheatre at Jalan Budaya.
“We hope that Sarawakians would join us and make our voices heard. We need to make both the federal and state government listen to the voices of the ‘rakyat’ (people). Together, we strive to bring new hope for Malaysia and Sarawak,” Teo said.
