Abang Johari vows to continue Adenan’s legacy
Seven out of the eight state cabinet ministers and 18 assistant ministers were sworn in before Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud today.
The only absent dignitary was Tan Sri Datuk Amar Dr James Masing due, to some other commitment overseas.
These ministers took an oath before Taib during an investiture at Dewan Lapau of the State Legislative Assembly Complex in Petra Jaya here.
They pledged to serve under the leadership of Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Openg, who was sworn in as the sixth chief minister last Friday.
Abang Johari succeeded the late Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem, who passed away at the Sarawak Heart Centre in Kota Samarahan last Wednesday.
During a press conference, Abang Johari revealed his new cabinet line-up by announcing: “Basically there are no changes. The only new ministry is Finance and Economic Planning.”
The new ministry is headed by the chief minister himself.
“We will pursue what has been done by the former chief minister and continue to fulfill the promises made by him,” Abang Johari said.
He added the state government would also continue to “pursue the devolution of power and will negotiate with federal government on the rights of Sarawak.”
