PUTRAJAYA: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) today dismissed the notion that the 2015 murder of senior deputy public prosecutor Kevin Morais was linked to 1MDB.
“As far as I know, Kevin Morais has nothing to do with the 1MDB case,” MACC chief Mohd Shukri Abdull told a press conference.
Yesterday, Sarawak Report editor Clare Rewcastle-Brown told The Malay Mail that Kevin had leaked information to her about the Attorney-General’s Chambers’ (AGC) investigation into former 1MDB subsidiary SRC International.
Rewcastle-Brown said “a few reliable sources” had told her it was Kevin who fed her the information about the investigation.
Kevin was believed to have been kidnapped on Sept 4, 2015, and strangled to death.
His body, which was placed in a drum filled with cement, was found almost two weeks after he was reported missing at Persiaran Subang Mewah, Subang Jaya.
Six people, including an army pathologist, have been charged with his murder.
Kevin’s brother Charles, in a statutory declaration, alleged that Kevin’s murder was linked to a charge sheet he was preparing against a “high-ranking government official”.
Sarawak Report meanwhile claimed Kevin was working on a charge sheet against then-prime minister Najib Razak regarding SRC International, and that the document had carried Kevin’s initials.
Attorney-General Mohamed Apandi Ali previously dismissed claims that Kevin was involved in 1MDB investigations, saying he was transferred back to the AGC in July 2014 before the scandal erupted.
