On 5/11/16, a police report was lodged against a facebook posting relating to organ harvesting that had gone viral. The posting alleged that someone was arrested at Kpg Daun Singai, Bau for killing 2 persons. The bodies found by the villagers had their organs harvested. It was further added that 3 more suspects, still at large, are using a heavily tinted white van scouring for more victims around Kuching. Two photos of the alleged victims were also posted.
The news of organ harvesting is utterly false and completely fabricated. No such incident ever occurred in Bau or in any other parts of Sarawak.
This false facebook posting is being investigated under section 233 (1) (a) of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998. The individual who posted the false news will be hauled up for questioning. We are also advising this individual, who identifies herself as Marcello Michell to turn herself in at the Bau District Police Headquarters.
The police again warns netizens not to spread false rumours or post false information that could cause unnecessary fear or anxiety in the community. We will not hesitate to take action against individuals who spread such rumours or post false information online. They will be arrested and prosecuted in court.
